An Analysis of Light Fittings by Elstead Lighting in Modern Interior Design
1. Introduction to Elstead Lighting and their Product Range
The backbone of Elstead Lighting is their fantastic product range, a monumental collection of interior light fittings designed and created to enhance the look of any domestic setting and provide value for money on a product that will stand strong for years. For us as a company, a light fitting is not simply a light source. It's a decoration, a focal point, a talking point even, and something that expresses character and style. It has a function and purpose, whether it beams a strong light for an office or classroom, or whether it is soft light for the dining room or a delicate mellow glow in a bedroom. Elstead Lighting employs many different styles, from traditional classic to contemporary, crystal, or period light fittings in an array of sizes and finishes. The light fittings are fitted with various lamps, whether they be used with incandescent, fluorescent, low voltage, halogen, or LED technology. The brand prides itself on product development and design, functionality, innovation, and investment in new technologies.
Elstead Lighting is significant in the lighting world, especially in modern interior design. Modern living is all about innovative contemporary design coupled with real home comfort. It reflects all about you and your family. Elstead, as individuals, strive to bring sustainable values into your home with light fittings mixed with eco-friendly and sustainable philosophy. Aimed to be an effective interior design tool, the lighting at home can be matched with a versatile range of fittings, either 'all in one' or with many rise and fall, pendant, table, and floor lamps, holding a variety of design styles and finishes. The focus is on aesthetics and quality, from striking Italian crystal confections to quirky artistic lighting, subtle low energy alabaster fittings, period traditional brass chandeliers, to architectural fittings. Each of the ranges is designed for specific applications and to complement the internal environment for aesthetic appeal. Elstead continues to innovate, develop, and invest in its design, production facilities, and personnel to provide the user with an eco-efficient light fitting that increasingly is part of today's and tomorrow's world. The light fittings from Elstead will enhance the look of the home and make it into a statement that will not go ignored - lighting that will enhance your mood and dreams.
2. Types of Light Fittings Offered by Elstead Lighting
As part of the collection, light fittings fall into several categories: ceiling lights, wall sconces, table and floor lamps, outdoor lighting, and shades. A collection of ceiling lights is available. The chandelier is a classic and elegant type of ceiling lighting fixture that has become an essential piece in modern residential and commercial interior design. This is because of the delicate lines, Art Deco step design, and pendant fittings used. For all modern spaces, these LED ceiling lights provide a touch of elegance and beauty. In addition to their exceptional appearance, light fixtures in this range are not only decorative but also serve a purpose by illuminating a room to create a warmer atmosphere.
The range of wall sconces provides the ideal situation. It is our belief that wall sconces are considered light fittings that can be added to any wall in either residential or public places, such as in a corridor to provide direction and illumination. We provide a variety of wall lights that are decorative and provide a warm glow. The close-to-ceiling pendant mounts are designed with materials and various styles. Each finish has been selected to fit in with a variety of home interiors, from marble and gold to black. Most ceiling lights are adjustable, making them suitable for a variety of home uses. Our modern close-to-ceiling light options are available in circles, squares, and ovals, with frames made of metal, wood, and mixed materials.
3. Advantages of Using Elstead Lighting Fixtures in Modern Interior Design
There are a number of strong points to be made regarding the use of light fittings in interior design, especially in the case of modern and contemporary design, where both function and beauty are ever more important. First, light fittings for residential and commercial spaces must be durable, requiring as little maintenance as possible. Light fixtures fit this requirement perfectly. Second, the majority of our light fixtures are designed for energy-saving lamps in LED or halogen technology. The subject of energy-saving light sources is strongly emphasized in modern ecological design. Light fixtures are both technologically possible and stylishly beautiful; a number of reputable designers and architects worldwide put their work on display in home shows and design fairs, using light fixtures exclusively in a variety of thematic rooms or temporary installations, complete with their own praise and/or testimonials for their designs. Architectural elements in any given interior design installation should be considered when choosing the proper lighting. A well-designed light fitting, the right design, in fact, will serve to accentuate the architectural lighting for the complete design. Light fittings can be made to suit most any interior design; while some products fit most categories, the overall aesthetic of the range has generally modern leanings.
4. Case Studies and Examples of Elstead Lighting in Interior Design Projects
Belinda Salmon, Head of Design at Codrington Bud, discusses the importance of lighting in the design of interior spaces and how it has been utilized in a number of their recent projects. She discusses the collaborative approach she took with the design team to develop new product families and ensure the final designs met the requirements of each unique space. She shows how the products were used and the impact the final installations had on enhancing and transforming the finished spaces, changes that even surprised the client. Recent projects in which we have used a large quantity of lighting include a mid-century new-build conversion in the Berkshire countryside, a bar in a hospice in Winchester, an £8m refurbishment of the conference and private dining facilities at a bowling lanes operator, and lastly, the restoration of a Grade II listed building in Knightsbridge. In the top two images, one property in the Spade House development, we worked on the show home. We knew that a statement light in the entrance was important here, but with the double-height landing and the light to fit, we couldn't find anything on the market that worked. The designers at that time were very excited about the opportunity to create something brand new for this area of the home and equally nod to the history and structure of the building, going old-school Hollywood glam with clear glass and gold candles as well as a quirky Chicago-style moniker. We met often to discuss function and form, looking at space, both 2D and 3D, to discuss positioning and scale until finally, we had a ceiling light that didn't just fit but screamed, "I've arrived!" The client loved it so much that they kept it there for the sale of the property. In January 2021, a PRS apartment was built for around the £110k mark, and the lights looked very adaptable, working particularly beautifully in a first-floor penthouse display.
5. Trends and Innovations in Light Fittings by Elstead Lighting
The last 20 years have seen major changes to design requirements, which have been largely driven by consumer preference but also by technological advances, improvements in manufacturing techniques, and the quality of innovative materials that have become available. With the growing trend for smart home products, many of our own light fittings have undergone adaptation to allow for connections into smart home hubs and integration with apps to allow creative control of many aspects of living, including security, comfort, and life-enhancing systems. Of course, this offers additional considerations to designers, installers, and homeowners as we, more importantly, embrace energy efficiency.
In our increasingly enthusiastic and knowledgeable world, we are all becoming more aware of making choices that impact less negatively on the environment, with more and more people talking about sustainability, recycling, and environmentally safe materials for the home. Elstead Lighting has been at the forefront of the affordable quality lighting market for nearly sixty years, and as trends and requirements have evolved, we have worked closely with our engineering partners and sought out the resources to keep up with modern design.
Sales of our traditional style coach lanterns, ideal for traditional and heritage restoration of homes and gardens, hail from our Sussex engineering workshop, while retro pendants, minimal ceiling and wall fittings, and statement wall lights have become available from new professional partnerships with modern lighting design manufacturers who have embraced different approaches to home accessories design. What will the next decade bring? In an eco-friendly market, it is predicted that this theme will continue, possibly with a greater mixed use of materials and designs to include crossover products that could work as stationery design, illuminate artwork or shelf displays, or be used to add low-level lighting outdoors with a quiet nod towards skillful, simplistic design.
